Samajwadi Party has announced candidature of former MlA Imran Masood as the party candidate from Saharanpur lok Sabha seat replacing Feroz Aftab, who was announced earlier as party nominee.
Imran, a former SP MlA and nephew of Congress Rajya Sabha member and former minister Rashid Masood, had left Congress and re-joined the SP early this week. Imran and his uncle were with the SP till before 2012 Assembly elections but later joined Congress.
The announcement of Imran was made by the party in Saharanpur, though no official statement was released so far. Imran contested the last assembly elections on the Congress ticket from Nakud constituency, but lost. In March, Imran severed ties with Congress, leading to speculation about his return to SP.
The announcement of Masood's candidature is a setback for Feroz Aftab, who was earlier announced as the party's lok Sabha candidate from Saharanpur.
