Hitting out at ruling Samajwadi Party the Bharatiya Janata Party said that Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav was insensitive towards the plight of  people of Bundelkhand who were dying of hunger while the government has turned a deaf ear towards their plight.

"The scenario has not changed even after Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan’s visit to Bundelkhand. He made some announcements there but there were no serious efforts on the part of government to extend relief to the farmers," BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said in a statement issued here on Monday.

He said after media had highlighted the plight of people of Bundelkhand where they are forced to eat roti and salt Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav had decided to visit the region on March 31. "Before going to drought hit area CM should do homework and galavanise officials and ask them to provide help to the people," Pathak said.

Recently, a section of media has highlighted the  plight of people living in seven districts of Bundelkhand that falls in Uttar Pradesh. Hundreds of people are daily migrating to the Allahabad or other parts of the country because of non-availability of basic amenities. Situation is so bad that animals are dying of hunger and human beings are surviving anyhow by eating roti with salt.

"People are complaining about non-functional tube wells. Crores of rupees have been used to build check dams but these were made only on papers. The wells and canals have gone dry. There is no effort from the government to provide water and food grains to the people," he said.

BJP spokesman said that the need of the hour is to extend all possible help to these people and for this Chief Minister should show sensitivity.
