Terming Congress’ nascent dalit prem a hoax. the Samajwadi Party said that the same party has used downtrodden as a potent vote bank and ruled the country for over 50 years yet did nothing to ameliorate their plight.
“If dalits are still downtrodden and out of the mainstream, who is responsible for this IJ It is the Congress. This party never allowed dalits to progress. It just used them as a vote bank and has always shed crocodile tears,” SP spokesman Rajendra Chaudhry said in a statement issued in lucknow on Friday.
He was reacting to the statements of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi made in a dalit conclave in lucknow on Thursday. Terming the BSP, SP and BJP as oppurtunists, Gandhi had hailed Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar as the real messiah of dalits and elaborated how the Congress had worked for the betterment of the community.
“Any student of history can tell you who has been the opportunist. This is a fact that after being persuaded by Mahatama Gandhi, the Congress leaders relented to give Dr Ambedkar a place in the Constituent Assembly. And now the Congress honcho is shedding tears on Dr Ambedkar and dalits,” Chaudhary said.
Hitting out at the Congress leadership, he said that the party might be living in a fool’s paradise claiming to form the next government in the state. The Congress leadership should better realise the ground realities and work accordingly,” the SP spokesman suggested.
“The popularity of SP regime is an indicator that the next government in UP will be headed by Akhilesh Yadav. The SP has swept the Panchayat polls and will win majority of the seats in the Assembly polls too,” he said.
