Demanding imposition of President’s rule in Uttar Pradesh former Chief Minister and BSP national president Mayawati said that ruling Samajwadi Party, in connivance with BJP, was trying to create communal disturbance in the state in the name of Chaurai Kosi Parikrama.
"Thanks to the people of the state - both Hindus and Muslims - the game plan of these parties proved a flop show. But this trend is alarming. If this is not stopped immediately the communal conflagration could engulf the whole of country that was witnessed after demolition of
Babri Mosque," Mayawati said in a statement issued here on Monday. She said this could only be achieved if President’s rule is imposed in the state because both BJP and SP would continue to play cat-mouse game to create communal divide in the society for political gain.
Calling the much-hyped Parikrama as a "fixed game" between SP and BJP to derive political mileage ahead of lok Sabha elections she said the game plan was to divide
Hindus and Muslims on the name of religion. This game was scripted in 5, Kalidas Marg, the Chief Minister’s residence where VHP leaders held almost two hour meeting with Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and Samajwadi Party National president Mulayam Singh Yadav.
The meeting re-defined the role of VHP and other saffron allies and how government would react to the proposed Parikrama, the BSP leader said and added questions are being raised the way local administration of Unnao allowed VHP leader Ashok Singhal to hold press conference while he was in custody.
"Such things could not have happened in BSP regime. The VHP could not dare to think of holding any Parikrama or meeting because the BSP believes in maintaining communal harmony and peace in the state. We have proved how peace is maintained because in last five year rule of BSP not a single case of communal riot was reported in UP," she said.
"I thank the people of the state who were able to see through the game plan of SP and BJP and boycotted the parikrama. To me, people are the real heroes," Mayawati said.
