Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, on Saturday, ordered transfer of Basti's district police chief and suspension of three policemen for harassment of a female student and registration of a fake case against her.
The action was initiated and the accused inspector and two other policemen were suspended after the matter was investigated by Gorakhpur zone's ADG Akhil Kumar and the charges were found to be true.
An official communiqué on Saturday confirmed that taking a serious note of the conduct of the men in khaki, the chief minister shunted out Basti's SP Hemraj Meena and attached him to the DGP Headquarters.
Ashish Srivastava has been asked to immediately take over as the new district police chief of Basti.
Besides, Station House Officer of Kotwali police station, Rampal Yadav, along with Sub-Inspector Deepak Singh, police outpost incharge, and Sub-Inspector Durg Vijay Singh, posted at city police station, have been suspended with immediate effect for misbehaving with the girl and filing a fake case against her.
It may be mentioned that the above sensational case was reported from Basti and the local officers initially tried to hush up the matter by just transferring the accused sub-inspector. However, on intervention of the State Commission for Women, Deepak was placed under suspension and a probe was also ordered.
The accused, however, denied all the allegations and claimed that some other's mobile phone was used to frame fake charges against him.
Deepak Singh, posted as incharge of Sonupar police outpost under the Kotwali police station in Basti, stopped a girl going with her brother without a mask during the lockdown period. The SI allegedly abused the girl and later took her mobile number before allowing her to go back home. According to the victim, the SI later made calls to her and also started sending messages. Later the cop also sent some objectionable messages following which the girl informed her parents and blocked the SI's number.
A few days after blocking the number, the girl was again stopped by the same SI when she went to purchase medicines. She alleged that the cop questioned her for blocking his number and threatened to book her father in some fake case if she did not receive his calls. On refusal, the SI registered a fake case against her.
The girl's family subsequently informed senior officers who removed the SI from the outpost.
Finding that no action had been taken by the senior officers, the girl informed the State Commission for Women about the incident and on its intervention, the SI was placed under suspension and a probe was ordered.
The accused SI denied all the allegations and claimed that the girl's family had a criminal background and to defame him, they saved his photo on some other person's mobile and sent messages in his name to the girl.
