The campaign of BJP-led NDA to clean Ganga got a boost when Samajwadi Party Government gave an assurance in Vidhan Sabha on Fridaythat it would co-operate Narendra Modi’s initiative to clean Ganga.
The assurance came when Shayamdev Roychaudhary (BJP) moved a resolution to stop pouring on untreated domestic and industrial waste in the river.
“The condition of Ganga is very bad in Uttar Pradesh. It is prandayani (precursor of life) and Ganga’s major course passes through our state. But it is heartening to see the condition of this river. It is dying because of pollution,” Roychaudhry said.
He was even caustic towards Pollution Control Board and said: “All the major leather units are pouring their untreated effluent in the river. Pollution Control Board officials know about this but does nothing.”
“What is more ironical that despite thousands of crore spent on the name of cleaning Ganga, this mighty river still flows dirty,” he said and asked the State Government to take immediate steps to save this rive.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mohd Azam Khan said that the state government was alive to the issue of pollution in Ganga. “The state Government is ready to extend all support to the Central Government to clean this river,” he declared.
