SP, Cong threw UP into fire of riots: Yogi

Sharpening his attack on the opposition, Yogi Adityanath said the Congress and Samajwadi Party were two sides of the same coin as their thinking and agenda matched each other.

He said that both parties and their leaders continuously insulted great men like Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar and threw the state into the fire of riots whereas the Bharatiya Janata Party regime put an end to riots and none occurred in the last five years.

Addressing a rally in Meerut, the chief minister said that whenever Congress and SP came to power, riots became the order of the day.

“Due to the riots, be it Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, or Bijnor, curfew was imposed, and the traders and poor used to get troubled by the situation. The name of SP is Samajwadi, but their ideology is family politics and work is of rioters,” he said.

Invoking Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, Yogi said, “Dr Ambedkar gave a new direction to the country through the Constitution. It was Prime Minister Narendra Modi who gave respect to him, while the Congress and SP had been continuously insulting Babasaheb. Prime Minister Narendra Modi made five places associated with Babasaheb into five pilgrimages. Babasaheb opposed the partition of India and said that those who were supporting partition should go to Pakistan. Had Babasaheb's words been accepted, there would have been no riots in the country. In 1987, there was a fierce riot in Meerut as well. Hundreds of people were killed. This process continued because Congress and SP always encouraged rioters. The 1987 riot would have caused a lot of damage if the PAC had not stopped it.”

The chief minister maintained that when his government assumed office, he ordered the deployment of PAC battalions in riot-hit areas. “We are building an Anti-Terrorist Squad centre in Deoband. Whoever indulges in anti-national activities will have to pay for it,” he said

Making a fierce attack on the Akhilesh Yadav-Jayant Chaudhary alliance (known as Do Ladko Ki Jodi), Yogi said that during the riots, one was causing the riot while the other was watching the mayhem.

Mentioning Covid management in the state during the BJP regime, Yogi stated that about 100 per cent of people had been administered the first dose of Covid vaccine, and 75 per cent of people had taken both doses.

“This election will be 80 vs 20. Now, these 80 per cents are coming towards us. Those who were opposing the vaccine should be taught a lesson by not voting for them. First, they killed people through riots and now they want to get people killed by coronavirus. It is due to the double engine government that there are no riots, no exodus like in Kairana. People are getting a double dose of ration whereas the SP government gave nothing,” he said.

The chief minister said that five years ago it used to take five hours to reach Delhi from Meerut but now this distance was covered in 40 minutes because of rapid rail.

“We are building a sports university in Meerut. Ganga Expressway is going to be built from Meerut to Prayagraj. The SP has complained to the Election Commission of India that the youth should not get smartphones and tablets. Now they will complain that people should not even be given ration. They are trying to stop every scheme of government, the people must stop them,” he added.
