Social media sites, a convenient tool for conveying public grievances

Social media sites like Twitter and Facebook have become a convenient tool for the people to convey their grievances like lack of civic amenities in their villages to Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav forcing Chief Minister’s office to respond to it.

A girl from Barabanki sent a letter to official twitter handle of Chief Minister’s office @cmofficeup asking Chief Minister to construct latrine in her village. Rishu Yadav, student of class IX of Tridev Bal Vidya Mandir, Fatehpur in Barabanki district said that her house does not have latrine and sewerage disposal was very poor. "During monsoon the locality gets flooded and water remains stranded for many days," she wrote.

The letter also talked about the machination of gram pradhans and powerful people of the village. "Our house does not have direct road. When we lodged complaint with lekhpal he asked for `kharcha’ (money). We do not have money and so our letters

are eating dust," she said.

The Government responded and assured that village will get all the basic facilities at the earliest.

SDM Fatehpur Sunil Kumar said that following directives from the Chief Minister’s office a survey has been carried out of the village. The report has been prepared and sent to District Magistrate. The work will start shortly   GS Navin Kumar, who monitors Government’s social site said that Government is alive to the problems of the people. When ever people lodge a complaint we take action. Sometimes even Chief Minister keeps a tab over messages received in his official sites, he said.

It is not the first time CM’s office has reacted to complaint on social site.

Earlier, CM a picture was posted about a boy who used to study under street light at Noida metro station. After school he used to polish shoes at the station in the day time and study under street light at night.

Government provided prosthetic leg to a Banda farmer whose picture was tagged in CM’s Facebook account.
