Meanwhile, Congress leaders continued to attack the Union Government on soaring prices of tomatoes. After opening a tomato bank in Youth Congress office, the leaders sold vegetables in front of Vidhan Bhawan to highlight that the Modi Government was not concerned about checking price spiral of vegetables.

The Congress workers parked a cartfull of tomatoes with a banner ‘Tamatar ke aaye acche din’ (good days have come for tomatoes) in front of Vidhan Bhawan and sold the kitchen staple at Rs 10 per kg.

Tomato prices have reached at Rs 100 per kg in almost all cities across the country due to various reasons which has riled the common man and burnt a hole in his pocket.

Congress leaders claimed that if the government was at all concerned about rising prices than they must open counters and sell tomatoes on subsidised rates.

The Congress leaders had earlier come up with a ‘State Bank of Tomato’ which was being operated from Youth Congress office at Mall Avenue since Wednesday. The ‘tomato bank’ has some interesting schemes to offer like providing the commodity on easy loan as also a locker facility, 80 per cent loans on tomatoes and attractive interest rates for depositing tomatoes, especially for the poor.

The idea behind the bank is to protest in aunique manner and create awareness among the people about the vegetable being sold at such high rates.
