Social activists and IPS Officer files a petition

Social activists and IPS officer Amitabh Thakur, along with another cop Satish Singh, advocated five day week in all offices of police department and had filed a Petition in this regard with lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court, on Thursdaymorning.

The petition says that the UP government introduced the five days working scheme on 30 October 2004 for “healthy work culture in administration, working efficiency and better productivity.” But this was limited only to Head of Department (HOD) offices and not to district offices. Thus Commandant PAC and SP offices work for six days while office of DG, PAC, DGP, UP and Home Department work for five days despite these offices having very similar job requirements.

The petitioners claimed that this division of offices for 5 day or 6 day working is arbitrary because it is not based on functional requirements. Hence they claimed to have prayed to make suitable amendments in this situation so as to allow 5 days week even in district offices.

Meanwhile Amitabh’s wife and social activist  Nutan Thakur, and his daughter Tanya filed another petition in the lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court, in which they sought direction to the Development authorities and Housing Boards all over India to provide public toilets in all their colonies. Tanaya claimed to have argued her case before the Bench of Justice Imtiyaz Murtaza and Justice D K Upadhyaya who referred the matter to the Court of Chief Justice Dr Dhananjay Chandrachud.

The petition said that the development authorities, housing boards and private builders have built large number of colonies, earning huge profits by getting land from the farmers at throw-away prices and selling plots and houses at very high rates but these colonies have no public toilets, hence they be directed not only to include public toilets in all future colonies but also to build such toilets in all existing colonies built by them.
