TV actress -turned-politician Smriti Irani filed nomination papers as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Amethi parliamentary constituency on Wednesday with much fanfare with a road show that matched her rival Rahul Gandhi’s show of strength few days back.
Irani started her road show near Budhan Mai dham along with her supporters. After passing through the main city thoroughfare the cavalcade reached collectorate office. The party workers showered rose petals on the way. She also visited her party office in Gauriganj where she addressed party workers. “The Amethi will witness a change this time. This would be a change for development. The rot will go and instead lotus will bloom here,” she said. The BJP candidate said that she wants to serve the people of Amethi sincerely and ensure good education, medical facilities and employment to the denizens.
Smriti Irani is locked in a triangular fight with Congress candidate Rahul Gandhi and Aam Admi Party’s Kumar Vishwas. Both have already filed their nomination. The Amethi lok Sabha seat will go to polls in the fifth phase on May 7 next.
Smriti Irani, declared the total assets of her family worth over Rs 9.32 crores. She has a movable property worth Rs 1.36 crores, while her immovable property stands at Rs 2.78 crores. She possess five agricultural lands at different places. She also possess two houses at Mumbai and Goa and cars worth Rs 14.8 lakhs. The movable assets of her husband Zubin Irani stands at Rs Rs 2.25 crores, while her children possess movable assets worth over Rs 2 lakhs. The BJP candidate has announced immovable property of her husband at over Rs 2.89 crores.
