Exhorting all secular parties to ensure the defeat of communal parties, CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechuri said that the BJP will get `Triple Talaq’ in Uttar Pradesh as voters would show this party its place.
“People gave the first ‘talaq’ when the BJP got a drubbing in Delhi polls, the second one was handed in Bihar and now in UP, the BJP is set to get the ‘triple talaq’,” Yechuri said while addressing media persons in lucknow on Friday.
Triple talaq among Muslims has taken a political colour with the BJP opposing the move while other parties including Congress and left advocating that Muslims be taken on board before taking a final call.
Yechury said that the UP elections will have an impact on the 2019 general elections. “The need of the hour is to ensure the defeat of communal forces because the policies of the BJP have disintegrated the nation,” he said.
The CPM leader said that left parties will contest 105 seats in UP. “Our aim is not to form a government but to stop the communal forces. In those constituencies, where the left is not in the fray, it will support that party which is capable of defeating the BJP,” he said.
“Our only aim is to strengthen the left Front and try to win some seats so that in the Assemblies we can fight for the people like we did during UPA-I when policies like RTE, MGNREGA, RTI and even right to food was formulated,” Yechuri said.
The CPM general secretary said that left parties are contesting the polls unitedly in Punjab, Uttarakhand and UP. He said that in Punjab, the CPM is contesting 12 seats with four other left parties while in Uttarakhand, it was contesting a sizeable number of seats.
“The Union government has taken decisions that are detrimental for the country. People have already started comparing between `note bandi’ and `nasbandi’. Culling of high value notes has affected farmers and small traders,” he alleged.
“The Union government is adamant on presenting the budget on February 1 which is against prevalent practice of declaring budget when state elections are round the corner. The EC has asked the Centre not to declare special projects for states going to polls but relief in tax to farmers and income tax to service class cannot be categorized in poll-bound and non poll-bound states,” Yechuri said adding that the BJP should show political morality and ask its government not to present the budget before election results are out.
When asked about violence in Kerala, Yechury blamed the RSS and BJP for the violence saying that the RSS was trying to expand its base through violent means.
“The RSS and BJP were instigating violence in the name of Hindutva. The violence has only intensified after the BJP won a seat in the Assembly in North Kerala,” he said.
