Sign board outside DM residence changes colour

Four days after the election in Ayodhya, the sign board outside district magistrate's residence has changed from saffron to green sparking political uproar as to why officials have carried out such changes in the midst of elections.

The next and sixth phase of the election is on March 3 and Ambedkarnagar, neighbouring Ayodhya, will go to polls on Thursday.

Since the Yogi Adityanath government came to power five years back, the colour of boards and signages of government institutions have become saffron.

Before that, these were in green and red colour , the colour of Samajwadi Party.

On Wednesday afternoon, officials of the PWD department changed the colour of the board outside the district magistrate's residence from saffron to green.

District Magistrate Nitish Kumar said that as the DM's official residence was undergoing renovation, he had shifted to the PWD guest house. "People come to meet me here and therefore the PWD has put up the board indicating that this is now the DM's residence," he said.

Incidentally, when the DM's residence was shifted to the PWD guest house, the color of the board outside his residence was saffron and the DM could not answer as to why it was changed to green.

"Changing the colour of the board in the midst of an election is wrong. The PWD officials told me that they have changed the colour of the board to saffron again," the DM said.

Meanwhile SP leader Manoj Pandey said, "After five years the administration has taken the right step. The winds of change have started blowing and Ayodhya is the first district which has acknowledged the change."
