Reacting sharply to Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, UP minister and government spokesperson Sidharth Nath Singh sought to draw the opposition leader’s attention to the plight of farmers in Congress-ruled Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan.
In a statement issued in Lucknow on Saturday, Singh asked, “Why is it that when Priyanka Gandhi Vadra always has something to say, she still remains silent on the brutal killing of tribal farmers that happened in broad daylight in Bastar, Chhattisgarh. Will she enlighten us about how many Congress leaders went to the site where the unarmed farmers were killed”
Calling out Priyanka, Singh added, “Priyanka owes an answer to everyone about why there was a lathi-charge on the farmers in Rajasthan. She should at least utter two words on the struggle of farmers in Congress-ruled states. How is that ‘Corporate Congress’ has suddenly started worrying about farmers. For Priyanka, her husband Robert Vadra is the most hardworking farmer, who does the tedious job of cheating the farmers by buying their land for pennies and making crores out of it.”
The UP minister further asked what did the Congress do for farmers during the long reign in the country and the state and said that for Congress, the slogan of ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’ was merely a slogan used to emotionally fool the public.
“Prime Minister Modi’s decision to repeal the Farm laws reveals his immense respect for the farmers in our country. Only someone possessing a will to serve people selflessly could have done it. Those with vested interests will only know how to find something negative in everything,” he asserted.
Singh concluded by offering his suggestion to the Congress leader saying, “It would be better if Priyanka focuses on the well-being of farmers in Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Punjab. As far as the Lakhimpur incident is concerned, the government is doing everything it should in this matter. The farmers have also publicly expressed satisfaction over this.”
