Rivalry for plum contracts was the key reason behind the shoot out in Cantonment in Varanasi in which Ajay Khalnayak, a close aide of jailed Mafia don Brijesh Singh and his wife had suffered injuries on May 04.
The grim facts surfaced after the arrest of one of the gun slinger who, as per claims made by Special Task Force (STF), was with the other shooters who had opened bust fire on Ajay’s SUV when he was returning his home on the fateful day.
The miscreant identified as Raghvendra Pratap Rai aka Shibbu of Cantonment in Varanasi was arrested from near Rani Temple in Cantonment in Varanasi. The police said Raghvendra was arrested after the police laid a trap near the temple on a special tip off.
The police said Raghvendra was to meet another miscreant, Rajesh Singh, who was involved in the crime. It surfaced that Ajay had an old enmity with Indra Dev Singh aka BKD of Varanasi while Ajay had a rivalry with Rajesh Singh of Ghazipur district on securing contracts involving huge sum of cash.
So both BKD and Rajesh have a common enemy and they got united to eliminate Ajay. The duo hired Shibbu, Varun Singh, Rakesh Yadav, Biradar Yadav, Kamlesh Singh aka Hakdu all of Varanasi.
The police said Shibbu was constantly in touch with BKD and he also was in touch with Rajesh a few days back the incident took place.
On the fateful day, Shibbu kept trailing Ajay’s SUV soon after he left for his home from a Mall and informed other accomplices who waylaid Ajay when he turned into the lane to reach his house.
After a lot of ground work, the police short listed the names of Ajay’s rivals, namely BKD and Rajesh, and then collected call detail record of heir cell phones. As Shibbu came under scanner, the cops laid a trap and nabbed him.
The cops recovered a 9 mm pistol made in USA, four live cartridges and a cell phone. The police are interrogating the miscreants and efforts to arrest the other named miscreants are on.
