Making objectionable comments against Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath became costly for a police officer in Barabanki.
The cop was removed from his post and sent to police lines after a video came to fore showing him making objectionable comments against Yogi Adityanath, officials said on Thursday.
Station House Officer of Asandra police station, Dhyanendra Pratap Singh, allegedly made the comments against the chief minister while talking to someone in his office room. A journalist forwarded a video of this conversation to Bharatiya Janata Party district president Shashank Kushumesh, who, in turn, filed a complaint against the officer with Superintendent of Police Anurag Vats a couple of days ago.
Kushumesh alleged that the SHO was trying to create a revolt against the government by making such comments in public.
Sources said that a local journalist and a woman police officer had a dispute over some issue inside Asandra police station a few days back. When SHO Dhyanendra Pratap Singh came to know about this, he called the journalist to his room and tried to convince him. The SHO, however, during talks used some objectionable remarks against Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. His words proved costly as someone made a video of the conversation and later it was sent to BJP district president Shashank Kusmesh seeking action.
After seeing the video, the BJP district president became very angry and he along with other BJP leaders met ASP Purnendu Singh and filed a complaint.
Taking the matter seriously, ASP registered a case against the SHO and also removed him from his post so that a probe could be made.
The police officers claimed that if the probe established that the SHO used derogatory language against the chief minister and the video was not doctored, further action would be taken against the police inspector.
