Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia) president Shivpal Singh Yadav will file his nomination papers for the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections on January 28 from his constituency, Jaswantnagar, on Samajwadi Party's ‘bicycle’ symbol.
Yadav shared this information on Twitter on Monday. He wrote, "I will file nomination as a candidate of the SP and PSPL alliance from Jaswantnagar assembly seat of Etawah district with Covid protocol and other guidelines issued by the Election Commission at 11:30 am on January 28."
It is worth mentioning that Shivpal's party, PSPL, recently forged an alliance with the SP.
SP president Akhilesh Yadav has given ticket to his uncle (Shivpal) from his traditional seat, Jaswantnagar. He will enter the election battlefield with SP's election symbol bicycle. Shivpal Yadav has been representing Jaswantnagar assembly constituency since 1996.
Meanwhile, speculations on the fate of Samajwadi Party's sitting MLA and candidate from Kairana assembly seat, Nahid Munawwar Hasan, ended on Monday as his nomination papers were found in order during the scrutiny of papers on Monday. Nahid Hasan has been booked under UP Gangster Act and is presently in jail. Speculations were rife that his nomination paper was likely to be rejected.
The SP, as an alternative, had announced the candidature of Iqra Hasan, sister of Nahid Hasan. She has also filed her nomination as an independent candidate. With Nahid Hasan in fray, there is likely to be a direct contest between Mriganka Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Nahid Hasan, who will be the joint candidate of Samajwadi Party-Rashtriya Lok Dal alliance.
In the 2017 polls, Nahid Hasan had defeated Mriganka Singh, daughter of senior BJP leader late Hukum Singh. The Kairana has become a high profile assembly seat as Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched his UP poll campaign from Kairana on Saturday last.
