Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia) founder Shivpal Singh Yadav, uncle of Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, has announced that he and his party candidates would contest on the symbol of bicycle, of SP.
PSPL is an ally of the Samajwadi Party.
Talking to media persons here on Sunday, Shivpal Yadav said that though his party had been allotted an election symbol but little time was left to make people aware of it.
“I have decided that we will contest on the SP symbol and will defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party," he claimed while reiterating that he had accepted Akhilesh Yadav as his leader.
"When I have accepted Akhilesh as my leader then why should there be any confusion on contesting polls under his leadership,” he added.
When asked about speculations that his daughter-in- law Aparna Yadav joining the BJP, Shivpal said that it is his advice that she should not join the BJP.
"Aparna should stay in the family and SP and work for the people. She will certainly get the reward at appropriate time,” he added.
Aparna had contested the 2017 polls from Lucknow Cantonment assembly constituency on SP ticket but she lost.
