After threatening to float a new political party, Samajwadi Party leader Shivpal Yadav opposed the alliance of SP with the Congress. Shivpal, the estranged uncle of SP president Akhilesh Yadav, said that the alliance would benefit only the Congress and the SP stood to lose in the bargain.
Shivpal Yadav, who is contesting from Jaswantnagar Assembly seat of Etawah, said, “Netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav) has disapproved the alliance and I fully endorse his views.”
Yadav said that in 2012 polls, the Samajwadi Party contested all 403 Assembly seats and this time the SP has given 105 seats to the Congress and both the parties have fielded their candidates on 15 seats which is a clear pointer that the SP has already lost 120 Assembly seats.
The SP leader said, “What kind of an alliance is this where the SP only stands to lose with no gains at all.’’
On his announcement of floating a new political outfit, Shivpalk said that he had no plans to float a new party and that he would decide on this only after analysing the Assembly election results and after consulting Mulayam Singh.
On January 11, Shivpal Yadav had filed his nomination papers and immediately after that said that he would float new political party after the Assembly election results were announced on March 11. Shivpal had also expressed his resentment over the denial of tickets to his supporters by party president Akhilesh Yadav.
With the elevation of Akhilesh Yadav as party president, Shivpal Yadav has been effectively marginalised within the party and is now confined to his Assembly segment Jaswant- nagar with no role in the party affairs or poll campaign.
