Shiksha Mitras from across the state postponed their ongoing stir for 10 days after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath assured of a solution to their reinstatement on Tuesday.
An eight-member delegation of agitating Shiksha Mitras led by state chief of UP Prathmik Shishak Sangh, Ghazi Imamala met the Chief Minister at the latter’s office at Shahstri Bhawan.
Emerging from the talks, Imamala told ‘The Pioneer’ that the strike has been postponed and not ended and they would return to work on Wednesday till the state government works out a tangible solution on reinstatemtn.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had cancelled the appointment of over 1 lakh teachers made during the previous Samajwadi Party regime.
Imamala said that the discussion with the CM lasted for almost an hour and a half. “The CM told us that a solution could be worked upon only if we stopped the protest. Yogi said that a committee comprising Basic Education minister, Director and additional Director of Basic Education department and President of Prathmik Shiksha Sangh will hold meetings to work out a solution. If the committee was unable to reach at any solution then we should approach him again.”
During the talks, the delegation offered three to four points for consideration. “The solutions offered was that a review petition could be filed in Supreme Court regarding the case or Shiska Mitras could be offered better remuneration. Secondly, Shiksha Mitras could be asked to take the TT examinations and then absorbed in schools. Thirdly, a change in the law could also offer us respite,” said the teachers’ leader.
Imamala said that the Chief Minister directed the officials to work upon t he solutions offered after speaking to representatives of Shiksha Mitra Sangh.
On being asked whether the Sangh was satisfied withthe CM’s assurance, he said that they had little choice. “We have to wait till a solution is reached as even the schools were suffering due to our absence. It is the fate of 1,70000 teachers at stake although nearly 1,37000 have been promoted as Assistant Teachers,” he said.
The agitating teachers have been protesting on the streets for the last four days with a majority of them admitting that they had no choice with their appointments being cancelled wherein they would neither be considered as Assistant Teachers or Shiksha Mitras. The Shiksha Mitras held their protest at the BSA office on Tuesday.
