Shah not to fight in 2017 polls

Vice-president of Women wing of the All India Congress Committee (AICC),  Dr Shobna Shah, who is also in-charge of the functioning of the UP Women Congress Committee,  claimed she would not fight to ensure more representation of women amongst the candidates list for 2017 Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh.

``Winnability will be my prime concern, the same as AICC consider while selecting candidates for the elections”, pointed Shah while disclosing that she would advocate but not contest to give the women a sizeable number of seats in the next Assembly elections. Shah was talking to media persons here on Thursday afternoon soon after reviewing the preparation for a massive demonstration in New Delhi on coming July 21when the female members of the Congress would gheraoe the Parliament on first day of monsoon season. They will demand resignation of prime minister Narendra Modi.

It may be mentioned that last State President of Mahila Congress, Meera Singh had fought for giving good representation to her colleagues in 2012 Assembly elections but when her demand was ignored and even she was denied the ticket by the high command, Meera Singh never visited her office. After two years of functioning without any women president due to Meera Singh’s absence, the Party made Ansuiya Sharma as working president but recently a full time president was posted. Interestingly Shah also admitted the said fact that the women wing of the UPCC is not in good shape and they had to spare time to restore lost glory of the Organisation.

``Now it is almost three years that UP Mahila Congress does not have a regular president so functioning of the Organisation has been largely hit so my prime concern is to re-establish the Organisation at district level as now the State Women’s wing had a full time president”, asserted Shah while disclosing that so far they continued with the same old faces in the district but very soon they would go in for a major revamp in the Organisation.

Revealing further to media persons, Shah said that besides reviewing the Organisational work, she was mainly in lucknow to ensure that maximum number of their women wing members should reach New Delhi on July 21 and make their demonstration against Narendra Modi a big success. She claimed that they were already in touch with the senior leaders here in UP and had also made them zonal incharges so they could visit in the districts and motivate the members to join the agitation. Shah expected that at least 1200 members of UP Mahila Congress would turn in New Delhi made their demonstration a success. However, State Women President, Prathibha Singh said that more then 2000 members of the UP Mahila Congress would reach New Delhi to participate in the demonstration.
