Shah Alam quits BSP

After party MLA from Sagri assembly constituency in Azamgarh, Bandana Singh quit the party to join the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday, in yet another major setback to the Bahujan Samaj Party, its legislature party leader Shah Alam alias Guddu Jamali also left the party on Thursday.

Shah Alam is the sitting MLA from Mubarakpur assembly seat in Azamgarh.

Shah Alam sent a letter to BSP supremo and former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati, on Thursday morning, informing her about his decision to leave the party. He also resigned from all posts.

Alam's quitting the party is seen as a big blow to the BSP. He wrote a letter to the BSP supremo telling her that he was resigning with a heavy heart. He said in the letter that the talks that took place between him and Mayawati last Sunday suggested that the party chief did not trust him, and so he was resigning from all party posts.

He also said that as he won the assembly election on a BSP ticket, he was also resigning from the legislative assembly and forwarded his letter in this regard to Mayawati.

This is the first time that the leader of a legislature party has quit the BSP.

After Shah Alam's resignation from the BSP, it is believed that he may join the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party. However, Shah Alam has not yet revealed anything about his future plans.
