Shah: Strengthen good governance further

Setting a clear agenda for the Yogi Adityanath government 2.0 in Uttar Pradesh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah asked party leaders to strengthen the base of good governance built during the last tenure so that the state could become number one in India.

"Uttar Pradesh has seen transformation in the last five years. The work done by Yogi Adityanath as chief minister has infused a new hope among the people that change can be brought about in UP through 'su-raj' (good governance). In the next five years, we need to further strengthen good governance so that UP can become the best governed state of the country," Shah told legislators during the BJP legislators’ meeting in Lucknow on Thursday in which Yogi was elected leader of the legislature party.

Shah said, “We should take a resolve on this day to further improve law and order, improve infrastructure of the state and provide a positive political scenario so that there is a steady flow of investments.”

"Good investment will bring more revenue which in turn will help in implementation of the welfare schemes for the poor and downtrodden. The more we work for the poor, the more we will be acclaimed," the Union home minister added.

The BJP senior leader said that UP had been the centre of political instability since its inception. "After independence political values declined and as a result the parties that bred on caste-based and dynastic politics flourished. This led to political instability. In the 2014 general elections when Narendra Modi, who was then chief minister of Gujarat, was projected as prime minister candidate, there was jubilation among masses. That time we won 73 out of 80 parliamentary seats in UP which led us to believe that if the BJP could win 73 seats in the 2014 general election, we could win over 300 seats in the assembly polls. And this proved correct in 2017," Shah said.

Stressing on the importance of BJP’s victory in the 2022 state elections, Shah said that the win had scripted a new chapter in UP’s history.

"In the last 35 years never a party has been re-elected after completing a tenure of five years. In both the times BJP got two-thirds votes and this was possible because of Yogi Adityanath. When Yogi came to power for the first time, there were numerous problems. The administration was in shatters, the economy was in shambles, criminals were patronised and police were highly politicised. Yogi cleared this rot and restored the law of the land," he said

Shah further said that the Yogi government implemented Central government schemes while the previous Samajwadi Party government’s implementation of Central schemes was mired in corruption. "As the administration was indifferent towards these Central government schemes, people suffered," the Union minister alleged.

Shah, who was in-charge of the Braj-region of the state comprising western parts, praised the hard work put in by the BJP workers. "They worked tirelessly during the pandemic to ensure ration reached the doorsteps of the poor. We won today because of these workers whose sense of duty is unparalleled," he said.
