Seven tech institutes to establish incubators

The Uttar Pradesh government, under the Atmanirbhar campaign, has directed seven technical institutes to establish incubators.

Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) and the other institutions have already established Kalam Innovation and Start-up Centre which invites innovative ideas from the students and in the last three years, the centre has received over 2,700 ideas. Out of these, 62 ideas have been selected and the AKTU provides an incentive of Rs 1,200 to students for making prototypes of their innovative products.

In July this year, the Yogi Adityanath government had announced the Uttar Pradesh Start-up Policy 2020. The policy aims at setting up 100 incubators in UP, at least one in every district, and developing an ecosystem to set up at least 10,000 start-ups.

The state government said the policy would help in turning the youth from job seekers to job providers.

The aim of the policy is to make Uttar Pradesh among the top three states in the start-up sector in the country and set up India’s biggest start-up incubator in Lucknow.

According to the government statement, the start-up policy is expected to create direct employment opportunities for 50,000 people and indirect employment for one lakh people in the state.

As a result of the policy, students of several technical institutions have developed innovative products and some companies are now going to launch many of the innovative products developed by the students of the AKTU and other institutions in the market. The students will also be given a share in the profit.

The AKTU is also proving to be an important link in the Atmanirbhar campaign of the UP government as it is also organising competitions among the students to encourage them to come up with innovative ideas and products.

In these competitions, the students share their suggestions and also present their prototypes and till now, over a dozen such prototypes business models have been created by the students.

Shubham Kumar, a student of Veera College of Engineering and Management, Bijnor, has developed a wheel spray pump machine which will be helpful to the farmers. Based on the principle of kinetic energy, farmers can spray fertilisers and water on their crops with the help of this machine, saving both time and effort. A company has taken up the innovative idea of this student and will soon launch this idea in the market in the form of a machine.

Similarly, Shivam Yadav, a student of Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida, has built a smart helmet with the help of artificial intelligence (AI). The GPS based helmet has an in-built sensor and in case of an accident, the helmet will immediately send a message to the nearest police station, hospital and family members. This product has also been picked up by a company which will soon start the production of this helmet.
