Seven Rohingyas arrested by ATS

Acting on the inputs of the intelligence agencies, the sleuths of Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorists Squad (ATS) arrested seven Rohingyas, including four women, from Kanpur Nagar for entering India illegally from Bangladesh.

An Indian “broker” who allegedly facilitated their illegal entry was also nabbed, an official statement issued here by Special Director General (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar said.

“Acting on a tip-off that some persons have entered India from the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura with fake Indian documents, the ATS team arrested seven Rohingya, including four women, and one Indian broker from Jhakarkati bus stop in Kanpur on Saturday,” the statement said.

An FIR has been lodged against the arrested Rohingyas under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Section 14 of the Foreigners Act (knowingly using a forged passport for entering into India or remaining therein without the authority of law).

The “broker” involved in the racket revealed before the ATS that they used to bring Rohingyas from Myanmar to Bangladesh and make arrangements for their stay in Rohingya camps. Later, they used to bring them to India from West Bengal, Assam and Tripura borders.

From the Tripura border, these Rohingya were brought to Guwahati by rail and then sent to West Bengal, Odisha, Telangana, Karnataka, Delhi, Punjab and Jammu Kashmir, where their fake documents were prepared, the ATS said.

These Rohingya were supported by their relatives, who had managed to stay in India, the STF said, adding a detailed probe was on in the matter.

Earlier also, UP ATS arrested several Rohingyas who brought Bangladesh residents in India and later managed forged identity documents which helped them establish themselves as Indian nationals. Later they also helped them to get overseas employment by managing Indian passports.
