With the arrest of a security guard on Sunday, the lucknow police claimed to have solved the brutal rape and murder of a woman in Mohanlalganj. Police theory, however, seemed hypothetical and full of loopholes.
On the other hand, the family of the woman felt threatened and said that they were being terrorised.
The alleged rapist was identified as Ram Sewak of Balsingh Kheda village in Mohanlalganj. Notably, the incident took place on a primary school premises in Balsingh Kheda village on Thursday. The cops recovered a bike of the security guard, his mobile phone and the keys of the bike from the miscreant. The weapon used to inflict lacerated wound (10cm x 3cm) and the woman’s mobile phone were yet to be recovered.
Giving details about the arrest, ADG Sutapa Sanyal categorically denied the incident to be a gangrape and said it was only a one-man act. She added Ram Sewak was deployed as a guard at an under-construction apartment and the victim used to live near the apartment.
ADG said the woman was planning to purchase a flat in the apartment and she had visited the flat on one or two occasions. She had also sought help from Ram Sewak to help her find a rented house for her family.
Ram Sewak developed a fancy for her but as his economic status was not good, he did not dare talk to the woman directly. He stole a phone from the site where he was deployed and made a call on July 14 on the woman’s cell number but no one received the call.
The ADG said the woman called back on the number after she noticed the missed call. During the conversation, she asked Ram Sewak if he was Rajeev and the accused responded in the affirmative. “Both kept talking to one another and on July 16 night, the accused called the woman to meet him in Mohanlalganj,” the ADG said.
She added the accused was wearing a halmet when he met her in Mohanlalganj and the woman believed him to be Rajeev. He asked the woman to accompany him to his farm house and instead took her to a primary school.
On reaching the crime scene, when Ram Sewak put off his helmet, the woman saw his face in her cell phone’s light and found that he was Ram Sewak. As the victim identified himself, she threatened him that she would complain to police.
When Ram Sewak tried to force himself on her, she tried to run away. Incensed Ram Sewak caught her and tore her dress and attacked her with keys of the bike. He tried to rape her and, when failed, he attacked her private parts causing the woman to bleed profusely.
The woman pleaded to leave her and requested him to give her water as she was very thirsty. Ram Sewak told her about the hand pump and when she reached near it, she collapsed there. later, the miscreant escaped from the scene.
The ADG said the miscreants had marks of scratches on his body and it seemed to have been caused by the woman nails when she was struggling hard and fought fiercely to save herself and her modesty. She said a case of murder and destruction of evidence was registered besides a case under section 376 A of the amended IPC against the miscreant.
Giving details of the forensic reports, the ADG said there was no seminal fluid found and the report was negative. She pointed out that the wounds of dimension 2cm x1cm were inflicted by keys of the bike as per the doctors who conducted the autopsy. “The lacerated wound found in the pelvic cavity caused the victim to bleed to death. The accused had nine scratch injuries caused by nails of the woman,” the report concluded. She added that the probe in the case was on and any development in the case would be shared with newsmen.
