Owing to the successful implementation of the School Chalo campaign, the target to enroll students in primary and upper primary schools in the state will be achieved ahead of the stipulated time-line, the statistics reveal.

“The overall target is to connect two crore children aged 6- 14 years with the drive in the academic year 2022-23. Currently, there are 1.88 crore children enrolled and studying in 1.3 lakh schools in 75 districts of the state,” a government spokesman said here on Saturday.

The campaign was launched by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on April 4 from Shravasti.

Expressing satisfaction on the functioning of the Basic Education Department, Chief Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra said that the state was moving in the right direction due to the continuous reforms in the education sector.

Under the School Chalo campaign in all the districts, the parents were appealed to enroll their children during the school management committee (SMC) meetings. The teachers are conducting household surveys across the state to increase enrollment. Along with that, enrollment of child labourers engaged in brick kilns and other industries was done under the campaign.

It may be noted that as per the comparative study of the Basic Education Department, in the year 2016-17 about 1.52 crore students were enrolled in the primary and secondary schools. After Yogi Adityanath took over the reins of Uttar Pradesh, the number of students increased to 1.88 crore.
