SC verdict on the Judge B M loya case has exposed Congress : CM Yogi

Claiming that the Supreme Court’s verdict on the Judge B M loya case has exposed Congress, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the Congress president should apologise to the nation for politicizing the issue.

“The term Public Interest litigation (PIl) has been changed to ‘Political Interest litigation’ by the Congress and its allied parties thereby maligning the status and image of the judiciary,” the Chief Minister said while addressing a hurriedly called press conference in lucknow on Thursday.

Yogi said that Rahul Gandhi had submitted a memorandum signed by 150 MPs to the President of India for a probe into Judge loya’s death and charged the BJP brass with his death. He had even claimed that the BJP was trying to scuttle the probe.

“But the Supreme Court verdict has once again vindicated BJP president Amit Shah that he was totally innocent and Judge loya died due to natural reasons,” the CM said and added that the court also ruled that the PIl was political motivated.

“The verdict in Judge loya case has exposed the Congress once again. Now, Rahul Gandhi should apologize to the people of the country, as the Congress has tried to create such an environment that maligned the image of judiciary and created a negative feeling for the government,” he said.

Yogi Adityanath said that through frivolous PIls, the Congress tried to do politics and create disturbances in the country.

“Rahul Gandhi should counter the BJP politically and should not indulge in such nasty conspiracy that includes insulting even the judiciary,” he said.

“Congress leaders always felt that only a family can rule the country. When a poor and common man gets the highest post, they go for such conspiracy to defame him,” Yogi said referring  to the humble background of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The CM was also critical of the statement issued by some senior lawyers after the SC ruling, who termed the judgement as unfortunate.

“Some senior lawyers have insulted their own profession which is very unfortunate,” Yogi e said without taking any names.

The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed petitions seeking an independent probe into the death of special CBI judge Brijmohan Harikishan loya.

The court ruled that the death was due to ‘natural causes’ and observed that petitioners tried to scandalise the judiciary.

A three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra and comprising Justices A M Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud, pronounced its verdict after hearing a clutch of petitions.

At the time of his death in 2014, Justice loya was hearing the Sohrabuddin Sheikh ‘fake encounter’ case, in which BJP president Amit Shah was named an accused. Shah was later acquitted in the case.
