Ahead of the Uttar Pradesh assembly election to be held early next year, former MLA of Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party, Kalicharan, joined the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in Lucknow on Sunday.
The induction of the Rajbhar community leader is seen as a desperate attempt by the BJP to undercut the potential electoral threat posed by the recent alliance between Om Prakash Rajbhar led SBSP and Samajwadi Party.
Babban Rajbhar, the national president of the Maharaja Suheldev Sena, also joined the BJP on Sunday. He joined the party along with the workers and leaders of his party.
The new inductions on Sunday took place in the presence of Uttar Pradesh cabinet ministers Brajesh Pathak and Anil Rajbhar. Laxmikant Bajpai, chairman of the joining committee, and BJP leader Dayashankar Singh were also present.
