SBSP contemplating to part ways with BJP

Suheldeo Bharatiya Samaj Party, an alliance partner of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in Uttar Pradesh, is contemplating to take a decision whether to stay in the government or say good-bye.

The SBSP is expected to announce its decision during its foundation day function here on October 27.

A senior leader said the SBSP would hold a rally at the Ramabai Ambedkar ground on the outskirts of the state capital on October 27, where party’s national president and UP Cabinet minister Om Prakash Rajbhar would announce the future course of action of the party.

The leader admitted that the bickering between the SBSP and the BJP had escalated as the ruling party had started recognising smaller parties but was ignoring the SBSP.

“The decision of the SBSP during the rally could go to the extent of withdrawing support from the government. Rajbhar might resign from the state Cabinet. But things can change if the Yogi Adityanath government accepts some of the demands of the party,” the leader said.

Rajbhar has already raised several issues from public platforms and has accused the BJP of ignoring the rights and plights of the most backwards.

He has also criticised the government over law and order and other failures.

The SBSP is also demanding reservation for the most backwards out of the 27 per cent quota given to the backwards.

The SBSP has four MLAs in the UP Assembly but they do not have any say in the government as the BJP has absolute majority in the House.

Recently, during the Rajya Sabha elections, two MLAs of the SBSP had cross-voted against the BJP nominee after which the dispute between the two escalated.

Meanwhile, a senior BJP leader said that they were not worried by any act of the SBSP and they too wanted it to leave the alliance.

“We do not want to take any action against the SBSP as it can send a negative message to the backward communities but if they want to leave us then they are welcome,” the leader said.
