Sleuths of  Economic Offence Wing (EOW) arrested a branch manager of State Bank of India and two others for their involvement in huge disbursement of loans on the basis of forged documents in Meerut.

A EOW team arrested former bank manager Mukut lal Bansal and two others identified as Bijendra Pal Singh and lalitesh Kumar  Tyagi of Meerut on Monday evening. The accused were produced where teh EOW applied for police custody remand so that the scam could be unearthed and those guilty could be arrested.

Director General (EOW) Aloke Prasad said that Bansal was posted as manager in Brahmpuri branch of State Bank of India in Meerut between June 3, 2005 and May 29, 2007.  Shyam Kumar was posted as Field Officer in the same branch from September 2004 till 31May, 2007.

The DG said that Bansal sanctioned several loans on the basis of forged documents (fake appointment letters, fake salary and property certificates, fake identity etc) between 2004-06. During probe, it was  found that Shyam Kumar and Amit Sharma running Kartik Financial Consultant firm in lalkurti area of Meerut also connived to facilitate loan sanctioning by Bansal.

It was also found that lalitesh Kumar Tyagi, Krishna Kumar Mittal, Manoj Kumar Kanaujiya, Vinod Kashyap, Sanjeev Sharma, who were given loans had separate accounts in the SBI but their ID Card number (B-13473) was similar in all the accounts. Similarly the loan amount sanctioned to Shamshudeen and Anjum were different but their ID Card Number- B-214070 were same in both accounts.

likewise, while sanctioning loan to Manoj Kumar and Vinod Kumar, their residential addresses turned out to be the same.

It also transpired that a house which was used a collateral for the loan, did not belong to any of the above persons. The hosue was in fact owned by a retired Major General and the duo used to live in servant quarter of the house and where they worked washermen.

The enquiry further pointed that service records and appointments letters of 18 others - Nidhi Mittal, Amit Gupta, Reeta Singh, Saini Iqbal, Sunil Kumar, Dinesh Kumar Sharma, Anil Kumar, Nafessudeen, VS Singh, Bijendra Pal Singh, Sonu Kumari, Shalu Kanujiya, Malti Kanujiya, Anirudh Sharma,  Mahendra Singh, Sudhir Sharma, Ravikant Sharma, Deepak Sharma etc were found to be fake but they all were given loans on the basis of these papers. Earlier Manager Naveen Raizada of the same branch had lodged a report with the police in Meerut on May 13, 2010 alleging huge bungling and swindling of funds through disbursement of loans on the basis of forged documents and named Mukut lal, Shyam Kumar and owner of Kartik Finance in his FIR.

In 2010, the state government transferred the probe to EOW which finally dropped the net on the errants after a threadbare probe.
