Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from Budaun, Sanghamitra Maurya, courted controversy by violating the Model Code of Conduct by asking party workers to cast the votes of those who do not turn up to exercise their franchise.
A video clip of the BJP candidate surfaced on the social media where she is seen telling party workers to ensure cent per cent voting on April 23.
Sanghamitra Maurya is the daughter of UP Labour Minister Swami Prasad Maurya.
“If required you can vote in the name of voters who do not turn up. Such small wrong things are acceptable but it should be in small number. Every vote is crucial and hence if required, you can vote for the missing voters,” she is seen saying in the video.
Earlier, the BJP candidate had triggered controversy by stressing that she was a bigger “gundi” than the criminals who harass the local people.
Dr Sanghamitra Maurya is pitted against sitting SP MP and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav’s cousin Dharmendra Yadav.
Polling in Budaun will be held in the third phase on April 23.
