Samajwadi Secular Front to be floated by senior Samajwadi Party leader Shivpal Yadav has proved to be a non-starter. After irreconciliable difference with his nephew and former CM Akhilesh Yadav, Shivpal had announced in May to float the front on July 6.
Shivpal had earlier said that he would conduct state-wide tour for mobilizing support for the launch of the apolitical organisation in lucknow. The date of launch has however been deferred to October, without assigning any reason.
In the last five weeks, Shivpal visited several districts to mobalise support for the Front but met with little success. Even in Etawah, he failed to mobilise support. A SP leader said that Shivpal could mobilize some crowd from Etawah for a rally in lucknow but no one was ready to be identified with the secular front.
On Friday, during his visit to Meerut, not a single SP leader including district chief Rajpal Singh could find time to meet Shivpal Yadav. Former minister and once a trusted Shivpal aide, Shahid Manzoor said that he had no information about his visit and hene could not meet the leader.
Shivpal sought to save his face saying that his visit had nothing to do with politics and the proposed Front. He said that he had come to Meerut to meet the family of SP leader Pinto Rana who was killed in a road accident on lucknow-Agra Expressway. Refraining from commenting on Akhilesh, Shivpal however criticised the Yogi government for failing to control the law and order in the state.
Yadav said that the BJP government has done nothing for the people in last three months as the government is yet to roll out policies and programmes. Yogi Adityanath is yet to present the budget for 2017-18 fiscal in the Assembly and the government was working with the vote on account obtained by the previous SP regime.
Shivpal charged that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had claimed to tone up law and order within 45 days of taking over but eeven after 100 days in office, there has been no material change on ground and criminals were striking at will. He however said that he would seek the performance record after Yogi government completes six months in office.
