Blaming central government for existing power crisis the Samajwadi party said that if Centre releases the full quota of Uttar Pradesh’s share of electricity, the power crisis could be resolved within no time.
SP spokesman Rajendra Chaudhry said in a statement issued here on Friday that Uttar Pradesh needs 12500 MW of electricity and Centre’s quota for the state is fixed at 6519 MW. “Instead of this quota UP is getting only 4800 MW of electricity. Thus the state is deprived of almost 1700 MW of power,” Chaudhry said.
Besides this, a 340 MW of unit is not operating because of paucity of coals and a 420 MW unit is closed because of renovation. And another 300 MW unit is not working as coal available is of inferior quality, he said. If Uttar Pradesh starts getting the promised Cnetre’s share and good quality of coal the power crisis could be resolved to some extent, Chaudhry who is also cabinet rank minister in the Akhilesh Yadav Government said.
He said that state’s generation is 5500 MW and is getting 5331 MW from central share against the demand of 12500 MW. This there is a gap of 1600 MW of electricity. “If need be Uttar Pradesh will purchase electricity on energy exchange scheme and try to give relief to the people,” he said.
