Former Chief Justice of Delhi High Court and national president of the Socialist Party (India) Rajindar Sachar has objected on the setting up of a judicial commission by Uttar Pradesh government to find out whether the mysteries Gumnami Baba was originally Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.
"Such Commission head by a retired judge of the high Court will yield no results but public funds would be misused," he said while adding that there was no reason seen to probe into the matter now. He further questioned, "if Gumnami Baba was Netaji then why he did not disclose himself. "
The former judge, who headed the commission to give a report on the social, economic and educational status of Muslims in the country during the UPA government, said setting up a Commission after such long time would only create unnecessary controversy.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday Justice Sachar said UP government should not go for any Commission on Gumnami Baba.
"Netaji had so powerful personality that he would not have lived his life in disguise when everyone knows that if he returned he would be the prime minister of the country," he claimed.
In January last, soon after the Centre and West Bengal government declassified Bose files, UP government has fast-tracked the work to set up the Faizabad memorial of Gumnami Baba, who many believe was Netaji living incognito in the eastern UP town.
The Akhilesh Yadav government set up two committees in December last year --one for cataloguing the belongings of the baba and the second, a technical panel, for curating them. Besides, the culture department on January 11 has written to Faizabad DM to expedite the process to set up the memorial at Ram Katha Sanghralaya in Faizabad.
Baba is believed to have spent the last three decades of life at various places in UP - Naimisharanya, Basti and finally Faizabad, where he breathed his last on August 16, 1985. Throughout his stay there, there was a buzz about him being Netaji and the latter's family members too would visit him.
The former judge also demanded that criminal act on sedition and capital punishment should be abolished. "Sedition cases are only used for political purposes while capital punishment is abolished in most of the countries." He also demanded that the Centre make public the name of the companies who are the beneficiary of the loan waiver of Rs 1.14 lakh crore loans by the public sector banks besides a ban should be made on holding cricket matches particularly IPl matches and swimming pools to save water.
Justice Sachar advocating for the women reservations in the entire sector said actually women should get 60 per cent reservation. He also demanded that the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 in Manipur and other states of the Northeast should be withdrawn immediately.

For the consecutive second day, Minority Affairs minister Azam Khan attacked Governor Ram Naik accusing him of turning the Raj Bhawan into 'RSS Bhawan’.
In an obvious dig at the Governor over his past association with the RSS, Khan said, "We have been elected by the people and not deputed by t he RSS. The Governor is expected to know that members of the Assembly do not speak as ministers but as member of the House.’’
"I strongly protest the conduct of the Governor. He has no business asking for my resignation from the cabinet. The Governor should stop meddling in the affairs of the government and dictating terms to the Chief Minister. It would be better for the Governor to focus on his constitutional obligations rather than indulging in politics,’’
said Khan in Rampur on Wednesday.
"Instead of calling me 'incompetent to be a minister' and asking for my resignation, the Governor should ponder whether he deserves to hold the constitutional office that he holds,’’ suggested the fiery minister.
Referring to the dispute of the state government with the Governor over the Bills returned by the Raj Bhawan, Khan said, "The Governor may be unhappy with the state government but the Raj Bhawan should not give protect corrupt Mayors and other elected office bearers of the urban local bodies.’’
On Tuesday, Khan had launched scathing attack on the Governor in the presence of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav at Kannauj. He opined that the Governor did not have any right to make fun of the democracy and should work as per Constitutional ethics without encroaching upon the powers of the CM.
