Sabha demands bill for temple construction

Without announcing any date for the construction of Ram temple or any agitation, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad-sponsored Dharma Sabha ended with a demand from the Centre for a legislation clearing the path for the Ram temple saying people are losing patience. An oath was administered to the crowd and everyone was asked to take soil of Ayodhya in their hands and take a pledge that they were in favour of the construction of Ram temple and would not let the gains of the struggle die down.

The Dharms Sabha did not pass any resolution but it underlined the strong sentiment for bill or ordinance for Ram temple by the Centre. Chairman of Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, who presided over the Sabha, said that people had faith that the BJP governments at the Centre and UP would fulfill people’s aspiration to construct temple at Ayodhya. “This congregation proves the point that people want a temple at Ayodhya. Till Modi is the PM and Yogi is the CM of UP, I am sure that they will find a way out,” he said.

This sentiment was dittoed by Swami Rambhadracharya who, in his address, disclosed: “ I spoke to a senior minister in the Central government regarding this issue on November 23 last. He assured me that after December 11, we will sit with the PM and will take a decision on this issue. I am hopeful that a legislation will come for temple construction.”

He added that he also spoke to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and he assured the former that the government would be pressured for a legislation in Parliament for the temple construction .”We want all MP’s to be united and the bill be passed with 2/3rd majority,” the Swami said.

The congregation was an amalgamation of sants, RSS, VHP and BJP leaders. The sants took the lead while others followed. “We will abide by the decision of this Dharma Sabha,” RSS Sah Karyawah Krishna Gopal  said.

Earlier, welcoming saints, VHP national vice-president Champat Rai said the fight for Ram Janmabhoomi was going on for the past 500 years. “This issue is dominating the energy of this country. Hindu Samaj wants the Janmabhoomi back. We don’t want division of the land and want entire land,” he said. He also demanded that Muslim side should take back it’s case from the Supreme Court for the early solution to the case.

The city was drenched in saffron – the colour of Hindu parties – as group of supporters spilled on to the streets chanting slogans “Jai Sri Ram”. They danced to the beats of drums and took a vow to sacrifice their lives for Ram temple. Elaborate security was made for the meeting with over  60 companies of para-military forces were rushed to maintain law and order. ADG (Law and Order) Anand Kumar told reporters in Lucknow that the Dharma Sabha concluded in a peaceful manner. “We were taking the help of drone cameras to monitor the crowd,” he said. The official claimed that around 75,000 people attended the Dharma Sabha while 25,000 people were at different temples. However, in the first half, around 27,000 pilgrims had a darshan of Ram Lalka at the makeshift temple at Ram Janambhoomi, Kumar said. The ADG also denied threat by terrorists in Ayodhya.
