With the by-elections to eight Assembly seats nearing, the ruling and opposition parties have thrashed out their respective poll strategies.
While the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party is now focusing on door-to-door campaign to make people aware of the government’s schemes, the opposition parties have decided to expose the regime on unemployment, farm bills and law and order situation.
Bypolls are scheduled for Suar and Malhani Assembly seats held by the Samajwadi Party and Bulandshahr, Naugawan Sadat, Tundla, Ghatampur, Bangarmau and Deoria seats that were bagged by the BJP. The bypolls are expected to be held along with the Bihar Assembly elections in November.
“We are now going to the voters and educating them about the achievements of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. My party will win all these eight seats,” state BJP vice-president Vijay Bahadur Pathak said in Lucknow on Wednesday.
BJP State chief Swatantra Dev Singh had recently visited Agra to take stock of Tundla and Deoria seats. Similarly, BJP state general secretary Sunil Bansal had visited Naugawan, while Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma checked the Bangarmau seat in Unnao.
During his visit to Ghatampur, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya dedicated and laid the foundation stones of 71 projects for development of Akbarpur, Misrikh and Kanpur Lok Sabha constituencies.
At a recent meeting with party leaders in Lucknow, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had given clear instructions that people should be made aware of the welfare schemes.
On their parts, Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party and Congress plan to take on the ruling dispensation over COVID-19 mismanagement, spike in unemployment, deteriorating law and order and the recently cleared farm bills and other issues.
“The BJP stands exposed before the people as they know that the BJP government has failed on serious issues like employment, farmers and on all fronts. The support received from the public on observing Unemployment Day is a clear cut indicator of this,” Congress leader Virendra Madan said.
SP MLC and spokesperson Sunil Sajan said, “The state-wide protests by SP workers have started and will eventually throw the BJP out of power. The people are now aware of the reality and will not be fooled again.”
The current strength of the 403-member Assembly is 395 (with eight vacancies) out of which the BJP has 306 and ally Apna Dal (Sonelal) has nine members. The government has the support of three Independent MLAs.
The largest opposition party, Samajwadi Party, has 48 members in the Assembly, while the BSP has 18, Congress seven and Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party four.
