Hundreds of inmates lodged in Hardoi District Jail created a ruckus to protest against poor quality of food being served to them and the scheuled shifting of some inmates to some other jail. The matter was resolved only after the District Magistrate reached there and assured the inmates of providing quality food and stalling of the shifting of inmates.
On Saturday morning, after food was served to the inmates, hundreds of prisoners suddenly started protesting and created a ruckus by thrwoing eatables and utensils. They also raised slogans against the jail administration demanding some senior officer should attend to their grievances failing which they would sit on an indefinite hunger strike.
The agitated prisoners also charged that the jail administration was extending VVIP facilities to select inmates and had planned to shift some of them to a better prison.
After learning of the development, DM and SP of Hardoi along with additional force reached the prison to defuse the situation. After 30 minutes of negotiations, the administration conceded to the inmates’ demands and assured of providing good food and not shifting anyone after which the inmates had their meal and returned to their respective barracks.
