The Rashtriya Ulema Council has said that the Muslims were mere vote banks for the Samajwadi Party and the party has failed to fulfill its promises made to the community before the 2012 Assembly polls.
The Council was set up as a protest group in the aftermath of Batla House encounter in Delhi wherein two Muslim youths of Sanjarpur village of Azamgarh were killed on September 19, 2008. Its national chief Maulana Amir Rashadi had even contested the lok Sabha polls against SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav from Azamgarh in 2014.
Addressing a party meeting, Rashadi said in lucknow on Tuesday, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been painted as a ‘villain’ among Muslims for the 2002 post-Godhara riots in Gujarat. But Mulayam Singh Yadav and Akhilesh Yadav remain messiah of the Muslims even despite 450 communal riots raging through teh state in the SP’s four year stint in UP.’’
Maulana Rashadi said that vacked by Muslim votes the SP came to power in 2012 but the SP government has proved that it was not the real well wishers of the community.
“The Supreme Court’s remarks on negligence of the state government in preventing the Muzaffarnagar riots has only corroborated this,” said the RUC chief.
He also coined a new slogan - ‘Musalman ab nahi rahega durbar me, wo rahega ab sarkar me’ (Muslims will no longer be courtesans, they will now form the government).
Questioning the secular credentials of SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and CM Akhilesh Yadav, the Maulana said, “For the SP, the Muslims are merely a vote bank and they have only cheated the community for its political ends ever since its inception in 1992.’’
Targeting secular parties, the Ulema Council chief said, “All so-called secular parties have cheated the Muslims in the garb of secular-communal divide but have never done anything substantial for their uplift.’’
Maulana alleged, “Secular parties can never be true benefactors of Muslims as they only use the community for capturing power by creating fear of the BJP among the Muslims’’.
Calling for the formation of a new coalition comprising Muslims and caste Hindus, the Maulana said, “Muslims of UP would no longer align with any political party. Now it is not Hindu–Muslims unity but Muslim-Hindu unity, where Muslims will join hands with the upper castes like Brahmins, Rajputs and Bhumihars. This coalition will wipe out Yadav led caste-based electoral combination of Samajwadi Party.’’
