An enquiry made following a query under the Right to Information Act revealed large scale irregularities in allotment and construction of Indira Awas Yojna in Rampur district. Taking serious cognizance, the State Information Commissioner (SIC) had ordered criminals proceedings against the accused and recovery of government money already sanctioned to non-eligible persons.

Giving details of the above matter here on Tuesday afternoon, SIC, Hafiz Usman said that a resident of Rampur had filed an RTI seeking details in the financial benefit and allotment of house under Indira Awas Yojna in Tahkala Panchayat of Rampur. Usman claimed that when the officials at Rampur collectrate not responded to the RTI, the activist filed an appeal in his court so he directed the chief development officer of Rampur, Mohamed Mohisin to look into matter and submit details.

Usman claimed that when the CDO also not filed any report, he gave him one month time and warned for stern action in case of non-compliance of his order. SIC claimed that now Mohisin turned up in his court and revealed that he has already got said matter probed by district saving officer and district handicapped welfare officer of Rampur who found large scale irregularities so necessary action has been already initiated.

Usman said that as per report submitted by Mohisin, there are 117 families registered under BPl category in Tahkala panchayat. The sub-divisional officer of the Swar has been provided names of 55 split families and 14 names of head of the families to extend benefit to them. The money was also sanctioned for the purpose. However during enquiry, it was found that above 55 names were present in the BPl list as split families but the same has been not found in the Family ID register. Similarly, it was found that Indira Awas benefit has been given to 21 families who were not entitled for it.

Usman claimed that the CDO also informed that they were now trying to recover the government money as well as proceedings has been also underway to punish the corrupt officials. SIC said that the CDO has sought some more time for necessary action in the matter so he sanctioned time till May 31 this month after which further action will be taken against all those who were trying to save the culprits.
