RSS advocates ‘garbh sanskar’ for women

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh has started a campaign to inform young couples that if they want ‘sanskari’ (cultured) and intelligent kids, then they should adopt the process of ‘garbh sanskar’ before the woman conceives and continue it during the period of pregnancy.
Videos of ‘garbh sanskar’ are in circulation in RSS offices of Uttar Pradesh. In the videos, being shown by pracharaks and sanchalaks (office-bearers), two girls – Rashi (8) and Kriya (4) – are seen reciting Sanskrit shlokas and mantras. The mother of the girls is seen explaining that her daughters are intelligent as she and her husband followed ‘garbh sanskar’.
“You can see today’s generation and how uncultured they are. Recently, a few videos were in circulation in WhatsApp showing how ignorant our youths are about India, its history and culture. This is because they do not have the right ‘sanskar’.  Now, the RSS has taken up the onus of providing good ‘sanskar’ to children,” said RSS leader Mahesh Sharma.
“I am not saying anything new. It is a science that existed in the country since Vedas. There are many instances in Hindu scriptures of women being blessed with babies of their choice following the wisdom received from sages,” Sharma said.
RSS volunteers Vinod Bharati and Ayurvedacharya Neeraj Singhal have set up the first of its kind Vedant Garbh Vigyan Evam Sanskar Kendra in Meerut. The kendra carries the tagline: ‘Baby by choice, not by chance’.
Both RSS leaders have undergone training in Gujarat-based Garbh Vigyan Anusandhan Kendra. These ‘kendras’ advocate a programme based on Ayurveda that guarantees couples a “perfect progeny”. People running these kendras even claim that this could upgrade and repair hereditary dysfunctional genes.
Dr Singhal said that women should follow ‘garbh sanskar’ before conception and through the pregnancy. Garbh sanskar are a set of rituals revolving around regulated diet and practice of Yoga.
“The high point of this is ‘sanskar vidhi’ — a three-stage ‘havan’ performed over nine months. The process begins three months before conception and later the pregnant woman is provided a diet plan that is nutritious and ‘satvik’ (simple),” he said.
“In the next phase, pregnant women are trained in breathing techniques as per their choice of progeny. They regularly recite Hanuman Chalisa and Durga Chalisa and listen to heroic stories of Shivaji and Maharana Pratap. Over a dozen couples have benefited from the procedure,” Dr Singhal said.
Ayurvedacharya at RML Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow, Dr SK Pandey, said that it was recorded in history that ‘satvik’ food and regular pranayam could transform one’s line of thinking and make the body pure, and thus help in conceiving a good soul.
