In a sensational broad daylight dacoity in Gonda, over half a dozen motorcycle-borne miscreants looted Rs 8.53 lakh from the cashier inside a bank on Friday.
Surprisingly, the criminals struck at the bank which is just a few metres away from the office of Gonda’s superintendent of police in the posh Civil Lines area of the district.
According to reports, over half a dozen criminals riding motorcycles raided the Pantnagar branch of Pratham UP Gramin Bank, a few steps away from Vikas Bhawan, Collectorate, SP office and civil court.
Reports said that like every day, the bank employees were busy with their work when some youths wearing helmets entered the bank branch. After about 15 minutes, one of them suddenly took out a sickle and put it on the neck of the lady cashier, Shweta. He threatened everyone else in the bank to kill the cashier if anyone tried to raise an alarm or come to her rescue.
In the meantime, his accomplices looted the entire cash available with the cashier. They later went out of the bank and fled with their other accomplices who were waiting outside the bank on their motorcycles.
The miscreants fled towards Colonelganj.
According to the bank’s branch manager Khushboo Bala Singh, Rs 8.53 lakh was looted from the cashier.
As soon as the criminals escaped, the bank officials informed the city control room about the loot. Subsequently the control room alerted the senior officers.
As soon as information about the loot was received, senior police officers, including DIG Amarendra Prasad Singh and SP Vineet Jaiswal reached the spot. Both the officers took information about the incident from the bank employees.
Five teams have been deployed to search for him. Some important clues have been found regarding the incident.
