The Rashtriya lok Dal is upbeat over its very impressive rally in Meerut that has set the tone and tenor of the next lok Sabha elections in the western Uttar Pradesh where Chaudhry Ajit Singh holds the fort.
"The rally has proved that people of western Uttar Pradesh are still with RlD. People came to strengthen the hands of RlD and took a pledge that they will do everything possible to make RlD a force to reckon with in the western UP," party’s national general secretary Anil Dubey said.
The rally was held in Meerut on the occasion of 111th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Chaudhry Charan Singh. Over 5 lakh people from all over the state attended that rally which was addressed by JD (U) leader Sharad Yadav, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupendra Singh Huda, RlD Chief Chaudhry Ajit Singh and Congress national general secretary Digvijay Singh.
This show of strength was imperative for RlD for its survival. After communal riots that rocked Muzaffarnagar killing over 80 people and rendering over 50,000 homeless, the political equation in this crucial region was in disarray. The Muslims were disenchanted with Samajwadi Party for its failure to provide relief to them while the Jats were looking towards a political party that could give them a protection.
The BJP tried to fill that vacuum to an extent. "Some political parties are trying to the fluid political situation in their favour by re-kindling religious slogans. But the RlD rally has proved beyond doubt that only Chaudhry Ajit Singh could stem the forward move of the communal forces," he said and added that party is bound to sweep lok Sabha elections in western Uttar Pradesh.
