Rastriya lok Dal is mulling to contest the cancellation of the reservation for Jats in central government services in the Supreme Court which ordered to cancel the same. While reacting on apex court’s order to cancel the reservation for Jats, RlD state president Munna Singh Chauhan held the present NDA government accountable for the fiasco and alleged that the central government did not contest against the apex court’s order in a calculated move and due to conspiracy to harm the interest of the Jats.
He said RlD national president Chaudhary Ajit Singh and other senior party leader were studying the legal aspects on the basis of which the party will file a review appeal in the apex court challenging the order. “The party is dedicated to safeguard the rights of Jats in any condition,’ he asserted. In a press conference held at party lucknow headquarters, Chauhan said the NDA government deliberately made weak representation in apex court which resulted into the reservation to be cancelled. “BJP led central government had opinionated view on reservation for Jat community and it did not presented the practical description of political, economic and social backwardness of Jats. Instead, the central government worked with snail’s pace for some vested interest which proved instrumental in getting the reservation status cancelled,’ he claimed.
Chauhan said the previous government had included Jats from nine different states in Other Backward Class (OBC) list so that Jats community can get benefits of reservation in central government services and in education like the facilities of a 27 per cent reservation that OBCs availed. He said several writs seeking stay on Supreme Court’s order. “Due to a strong representation of the case by RlD national president, the apex court had declined to issue stay order. Had the NDA government presented the Jat reservation issue in a logical way while advocating the need of reservation, the Jat youths would not have been deprived of the benefits,’ he said. Giving the detail of struggled that the RlD made to secure reservation for Jats, Chauhan said Chaudhry Ajit Singh who was holding the post of civil aviation in UPA government had brought reservation for Jats in central government services under OBC category. “This was first time that a reservation was given to Jats under the constitutional structure of India in which religion was not a compulsion and Jats coming from Hindu, Muslim, Sikh and Vishnoi sects got reservation equally,’ he said.
