Highlighting the anomalies in resolving the farmers’ issue in the state, Rastriya lok Dal president, Munna Singh Chauhan demanded, from both the centre and the state governments, to give compensation to farmers as per relief policy. He also demanded the government to prevent fraud in the survey process and benefit the farmers uniformly. The leader was attacking when he pointed out that the state government had declared the present year as Farmers’ year. “It is sheer a mockery to farmers that their issues are being ignored still. The relief fund being provided to them is nonetheless a rude joke to the farmers who suffered huge crop losses,’ he said.

Chauhan said the state government was yet to do anything needful to farmers but it kept making tall claims on compensation issues. He said the MoU, signed between state government and private insurance companies, was not serving to the interest of the farmers. ‘It was aimed at benefiting the companies instead,’ he said. He said the farmers were yet to get the compensation for the losses they suffered due to hail storm in 2014. “The insurance companies had been paid annual premium of Rs 7,500 crore as per the contract but the farmers got Rs 75 crore as compensation in financial year 2014-15,’ Chauhan aid. He also demanded the state government to waive off electricity bill, agriculture-debt and ensure benefits of agricultural insurance scheme.
