A delegation of Rashtriya Lok Dal met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday to demand clearance of arrears of sugarcane growers, increase in sugarcane price and compensation to farmers who lost crops due to flood.
The delegation comprised RLD Legislature Party leader Raj Pal Singh Baliyan, party MLA Anil Kumar and party spokesman Anil Kumar Dubey.
In a press statement, Dubey said sugarcane growers were passing through a tough phase and there was need for immediate clearance of their sugarcane arrears. “Also, they need an increase in the price of sugarcane as farming has become more expensive than earlier,” he said.
The RLD leader said several farmers had suffered loss of crops due to incessant rains in some parts of Uttar Pradesh.
“The government should run relief operations on priority. To save farmers from starving, the government should give them compensation for the loss of the crops,” he said.
Dubey said the RLD was always raising the issues of farmers, youth, unemployed and people of downtrodden class of society.
“The meeting with the chief minister of UP was to apprise him of the demand of the farmers,” he said.
