RLD chief to hold meeting with new MLAs on March 26

Rashtriya Lok Dal will hold a meeting of its newly-elected legislators in the UP assembly at the party's Lucknow office on March 26.

RLD national president Jayant Chaudhary will chair the meeting.

Addressing media persons here on Monday, RLD national secretary Anil Dubey said that the meeting was earlier scheduled on March 21 but was postponed due to preoccupation of senior party leaders in selection of candidates for the UP Legislative Council polls.

During the meeting, the RLD chief is scheduled to discuss restructuring of the party organisation and other issues.

A senior RLD leader said that the party leadership aimed to strengthen the party base and expand its presence in Uttar Pradesh, including the eastern region, by appointing local leaders as office-bearers. He said that the party brass also had plans to give representation to young faces in the party.

Earlier, the RLD leadership had dissolved all units of the party, including the state unit, before the meeting. A day after the announcement, RLD state chief Dr Masood Ahmad had resigned from his post alleging that tickets for assembly elections were sold by the Samajwadi Party-Rashtriya Lok Dal alliance leaders and competent candidates were ignored. Masood also alleged that the alliance leaders did not highlight or speak on Dalit and Muslim issues which led to the poll debacle.
