In a sensational broad daylight killing in Gorakhpur, a retired jawan of Border Security Force (BSF) gunned down a youth inside the district court compound on Friday.

He killed the youth to avenge the rape of his minor daughter in which he was an accused.

The parking lot operator and two cops on security duty at the court gate caught the fleeing jawan along with the weapon. Angered by the incident on the court premises, advocates started protesting and questioned the security arrangements, especially how someone entered the court premises with a weapon.

ADG, Gorakhpur Zone, Akhil Kumar, who rushed to the spot along with other senior officers, somehow pacified the lawyers by assuring them that a probe would be made and action would be taken against whosoever was found guilty.  As a precaution, additional force has been deployed outside the court.

According to reports, Bhagwat Nishad, a retired BSF jawan, originally hailing from Maharajganj village of Barhalganj, lives with his family in Patna Ghat Tiraha. Dilshad Hussain, a resident of Vidhipura Chakra in Muzaffarpur (Bihar) district, used to run a puncture shop in front of his house. On February 12, 2020, Dilshad kidnapped Bhagwat's minor daughter. After the investigation, on February 17, Bhagwat filed a report of rape and a case was registered against Dilshad under IPC provisions and POCSO Act.

On March 12, 2021, the Barhalganj police arrested Dilshad in Hyderabad and freed the teenager. After bringing him to Gorakhpur, the police produced the accused in court from where he was sent to jail. The teenager was sent to Nari Niketan. Two months ago, Dilshad was released on bail. On Friday, in the ongoing trial in POCSO Act Special Judge Court No 4, Dilshad came to appear before the magistrate. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the entry of the litigants is prohibited on the premises.

Dilshad, who reached the civil court gate at 1:15 pm, called his advocate Shankarsharan Shukla on mobile phone at 1:25 pm and called him at the gate to meet him. Before he could meet the lawyer, Bhagwat Nishad shot him in the back of the head with his licensed pistol, and the bullet went piercing his head. Dilshad fell on the ground and died on the spot.

After the incident, Bhagwat, who fled from the court, was caught by parking lot operator Kanhaiya and the constables posted at gate number one, Amit Yadav and Surya Prakash Patel, rushed to the spot and took the accused in their custody and also recovered the weapon.

ADG Akhil Kumar, DIG Range J Ravindra Gaur, SSP Dr Vipin Tada reached the spot with a heavy force.

ADG Akhil Kumar said that how the retired soldier reached the court premises with arms was being investigated and action would be taken against whoever was guilty.

A murder case was registered against Bhagwat and he was sent to jail.
