After a painstaking probe into the grisly killing of National Investigating Agency (NIA) Deputy SP, Tanzil Ahmed which threw up a complex maze of inter-personal animosities, investigators finally dropped the net on the slain officer's kin identified as Rehan.

Whether Ahmed paid the price for keeping in touch with criminals sharing the same nativity of Bijnore or was mired in dispute with his kin and countryt cousin over property, is still to be unravelled which has rendered the probe agencies and Bijnore Police tingue tied on coming out clean on the motive of the killing. They are now waiting for the arrest of a local criminal Munir who actually fired the two dozen bullets into Ahmed. He was in touch with the cop but the link up soured recently after the cop failed to keep up a promise.

When asked of Ahmed's emerging nexus with criminals, prove team head and ADG (law and order) Daljeet Singh Choudhary maintained a stoic silence. He however said, "We are still probing and more facts are surfacing during quizzing of suspects. We will soon come out with the facts in this regard.”

Incidentally for the first time, the ADG ruled out a terror link behind the murder of the NIA officer. ``During the probe, no evidence came up pointing to a terror angle in the murder,” Choudhary said curtly.

Sources divulged that the slain officer's kin Rehan has been arrested. It is being said that Ahmed had taken sides with some other kin and in the process deprived Rehan and his family a fair share when the family property was divided causing heartburn. Rehan visited the marriage venue on the fateful evening and had a heated arguments with Ahmed but he later left.

The name of hardened criminal from Ahmed'a village Munir also cropped up during the probe. He was rusticated from Aligarh Muslim University for complicity in a murder and carries a cash reward of Rs 5000 on his arrest.

Ahmed reportedly assured Munir to help him out in some criminal case but later reneged thereby causing considerable strain in their relation. It is suspected that Muneer wanted to avenge the betrayal as he felt `cheated’ by the officer. Police sources felt that Munir was the person fired teh fatal shots.

Ir also surfaced that Rehan and Muneer were close chums and the location of both were confirmed on the spot on the fateful night. Munir aske3d one of his lackeys to bring a bag cvontaining the hand gun and ammunition. While Munir fired  the shots, Rehan stood by as both had a common motive - revenge.

It emerged that Ahmed stopped the car seeing the duo and spoke to them before Munir opened indiscriminate fire. The bike which was used for getaway was also recovered by the police.

The police was hence trying to drop the net on Munir and his aide who supoplied the hand gun and ammunition to piece together the jigsaw and unravel the facts leading  to the gruesome killing.

The NIA officer was shot 24 times while returning from a wedding function along with his family members in a car lateSaturday night. His wife Farzana too suffered four bullet injuries and was convalescing at a Noida hospital.
