Reduced export incentive of handicraft adversely affects: CM

Batting for the glass handicraft exporters, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has written to PM Narendra Modi saying that reduction in export incentives in glass and glassware industry at Ferozabad, has been adversely affected.

“Under the new trade policy, the incentive for export of handicraft items has been reduced from 7 per cent to 3 per cent. This has adversely affected the export in the area and hence the cut in incentives should be restored,” Yadav wrote in his letter which was released to the media on Thursday.

He said that many industrial associations including Glass Manufacturers and Export Association, UP Glass Import-Export Association, Ferozabad and Indian Industries Association have informed the UP government about the downslide in export following reduced incentive.

“The Government of India should respect the demand of glass and glassware manufacturers and waive off the cut in incentive as proposed in the new trade policy. This decision will help in promoting export in this sector,” Yadav wrote.

He said Principal Secretary MSME has written to the Director General of Foreign Trade (GoI) regarding demands of Ferozabad traders in July 2015 but is yet to hear from him.

Ferozabad is home to glassware and glass handicraft work and in the last five years there has been an increase in the export of these items. In 2013-14 goods worth Rs 900 crore was exported.
